Teaching Practice

Self reflection

Our teaching practice programme started at 14th November 2016.   Inorder to conduct our teaching practice programme I choosed G.H.S.S Vallikeezhu.   The important aspect of school based teaching practice is that it provides the opportunity to integrate different types of knowledge and use them in specific school contexts.   Teaching practice also represents an opportunity for student teachers to socialise, and learn to'behave' like teachers.

Our School is a P+UP & Sec/H.Sec School.   The management of G.H.S.S. Vallikeezhu is Dept. of Education.    Malayalam and English are the medium of instructions in this school.   The school has implemented continuous and comprehensive evaluation.   Teachers of school are well qualified as they have graduate and above degrees.

Working hours of my school is 9.30 am to 3.30 pm.   In every week Monday and Wednesday we conducted assembly.   Our first day at school was November 14, Children's day so at that day our school celebrated Children's day.   In that function UP, HS, HSS Students and teachers participated and we all enjoyed the function.

In the school I got IX.C English medium class to teach my lessons.   The total strength of my class is fourty.   At first I taught them a short story named 'the last leaf'.  It tells the story of the friendship between two young girls and how the life of one of them was saved by an old painter.   The painter sacrificed his own life, but in the process produced a masterpiece in painting.   The main concepts of this lesson are determination, conviction and power of the mind, the ability to manage a disaster effectively, optimism and positive thinking and importance of forgiving and forgetting.

In my class at first I checked the students previous knowledge through asking questions.  Then I gave interesting entry activities to the students.   After that I read the passage and referred the glossary items.   For glossary reference I used some pictures, charts and gives the situations to get the right meaning.   At the end  I gave interesting activities based on my lesson; Word Web, Word pyramid jumbled words etc.   The students in my class actively participated in all the activities.   I also gave assignment works to the students; preparation of greeting cards and comic strips, collection of adds from the news paper, preparation of the script of radio play etc.

Postural Deformities

Flat feet

Flat feet (also called pes planus or fallen arches) is a postural deformity in which thearches of the foot collapse, with the entiresole of the foot coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground. Some individuals (an estimated 20–30% of the general population) have an arch that simply never develops in one foot (unilaterally) or both feet (bilaterally).
There is a functional relationship between the structure of the arch of the foot and the biomechanics of the lower leg. The arch provides an elastic, springy connection between the forefoot and the hind foot. This association safeguards so that a majority of the forces incurred during weight bearing of the foot can be dissipated before the force reaches the long bones of the leg and thigh.

Bow legs

Genu varum (also called bow-leggedness,bandinessbandy-leg, and tibia vara), is a physical deformity marked by (outward) bowing of the lower leg in relation to the thigh, giving the appearance of an archer's bow. Usually medial angulation of both femur andtibia is involved.
